A guide to spa speak

First time visiting a spa or 10th - it doesn't matter; the range of treatments & experiences can be confusing. If you're not sure about a treatment don't be afraid to ask. Our glossary is a start to understanding the terms but not definitive - the list is truly endless.


Often an integral part of the spa experience, baths/hydrotherapy baths offer a calming and centering experience. Colour therapy is sometimes used to enhance bath treatments and is believed to promote positivity and relaxation

Body Polish

A gentle skin refining scrub, which leaves the skin smooth and silky. May be referred to as a Body Scrub

Body Scrub

An abrasive exfoliating body treatment, which removes dry, dead skin cells from the body, softening the skin and boosting circulation. May be referred to as a Body Polish

Body Wraps (or Body Envelopments)

This type of treatment involves the application of rich, nutrient substances or crèmes (or even chocolate). The body is cocooned between towels, cling film or foil and kept under a heated blanket to detoxify the system and hydrate the skin. This treatment sometimes includes a relaxing scalp massage whilst the wrap does its good work

Bust Treatment

A massage to firm and tone the bust and décolleté area of the body
