Pañpuri Inner Peace Relaxing Massage and Femme Fatale Candle - 06 Mar 2014

Pañpuri Inner Peace Relaxing Massage and Femme Fatale Candle

Shelbourne Special Offer

2014 continues to be the year of great treatments (is it just me, or have Irish therapists really started to make their mark as some of the best in the world?). I've been to the Spa at The Shelbourne before and praised this oasis in the heart of Dublin city but yesterday I was lucky enough to enough a Pañpuri Inner Peace Relaxing Massage, and it was 90 minutes of pure escape (thank you Ruth!).

The Shelbourne has an exclusive on this Thai product, and is the only spa in the country offering either treatments or the most gorgeous selection of lotions and potions. With my usual busy head, I went for the Pañpuri Inner Peace Relaxing Massage (which for a limited time comes with a complimentary Femme Fatale Candle at an all in price of €150 per person). This 90 minute massage uses Ylang Ylang extracts which, blended with Pañpuri’s natural base oils, create a sweetly exotic floral scent, to "perfectly align and open energy channels to receive the therapeutic benefits of Swedish, Aromatherapy and Shiatsu combination of massage strokes". Does it work - yes, it does, and the final stage, a cranial massage, is just magic.

The Femme Fatale Candles are inspired by historical women of intrigue - Eve, Cleopatra, Marilyn Monroe, Marie Antoinette; I went for the Eye of The Day, which has Mata Hari to thank for it's evocative scent - fresh lemon and pomelo cuttings, earthy hearts of freshly harvested galbanum, rhubarb and celery seeds with spicy airs of oak moss and musk. Exotic, sultry, a real treat.

Included in this special offer price - €150 per person - is your massage, your choice of Femme Fatale Candle and the Spa at the Shelbourne Refreshment plate, which is served after your treatment in the tranquility and luxurious surroundings of the relaxation room. If you are feeling lively you can also enjoy the spa facilities, pool, steam and sauna. For bookings call the Spa directly on +353 1 663 4500 or email spa.dubbr@theshelbournespa.com

Eve Lom Facial - 01 Mar 2014

Eve Lom Facial

Quite possibly the best facial in the world.

I have a confession to make; I am utterly committed to Eve Lom's Facial Cleanser and have been ever since my first Eve Lom facial at The Killarney Park Hotel Spa several years ago. Recently I returned to the hotel for another great stay, as ever enhanced by the superlative service that the team deliver on every visit. It was time to test the treatment and see if it still lived up to my memory as being the most thorough and effective facial on the market.

Eve Lom's philosophy is based on the belief that every living organism pulsates with energy, sending out information about the physical, biological and emotional state of the body. Through regular cleansing, decongestion and exfoliation, this energy can be regulated to help maintain healthy skin. So how does the facial work? First up, opt for the 90 minute session; you can do an hour long facial but frankly, that defeats the whole purpose. Spend the extra euros and enjoy 90 minutes of deep deep cleansing. After the therapist has evaluated your skin, it will be cleansed, and cleansed again, before the therapist applies a warm parraffin wax which will open the pores and make extractions easier. I love the parraffin, layer after layer is brushed onto the skin (smells sweet, don't worry, nothing like you would expect) until, once that final layer has cooled and hardened slightly, the whole 'mask' is removed, making you feel as if your skin is reborn. The therapist will then start the unique Eve Lom lymphatic massage which involves very light pressure and soft pumping movements to eliminate toxins, reduce puffiness and water retention and to stimulate cellular activity.

After this, the Eve Lom Rescue Mask is applied (this is clay based) and then removed with a hot chamomile soaked muslin cloth. Finally an ice-cold compress is used to close pores leaving skin looking radiant. Now my skin is a little tired these wintry days, and well aged as the years fly by, but the effects of this facial really are instant. You will glow. €145 euro very well spent.
