Ciuin Spa at the Slieve Russell - NEW!

Ciuin means "quiet" in Irish and is the perfect name for this oasis within the Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club, located in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.

The Spa runs to a surprisingly spacious 17 treatment rooms in addition to a well laid out thermal suite which includes a Herb Sauna, Hammam, Salt Grotto, Hydrotherapy spa, Health and Adventure Showers and a Rasul Chamber and Floatation Therapy (additional charge for Rasul and Floatation).

The product used here is Elemis and the spa menu features treatments for both men and women, including an exclusive Ciuin Signature Facial and Ciuin Signature Body Treatment, along with a selection of full and half day Spa Rituals.

Our choice for instant stress relief - indulge in an Elemis Aroma Stone Treatment (using basalt stones to melt away tension), followed by an Elemis Visible Brilliance Facial - which will leave skin radiant and a Lavish Foot Spa - the ultimate Pedicure.

And you read it here first - at the end of July, Elemis will be launching the latest edition to the Elemis Pro-Collagen range, their Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Mask. Containing all of the Anti-Ageing ingredients used within the Elemis facial, this cream mask instantly uplifts the skin and helps minimise the signs of ageing for a more youthful, firmer appearance. The joy of this mask is that you can use it as a mask for 10 minutes and remove or leave it on overnight, making it the "at home facial in a bottle". A great way to maintain the benefits of your Elemis facial at Ciuin Spa.

Lough Erne Golf Resort - NEW - 18 Jun 2008

Lakeside luxury, a unique Thai Spa and a Nick Faldo golf course. Heaven!

The recently opened Lough Erne Golf Resort resides between two prominent lakes on its own peninsula, where you can expect to relax instantly in the fresh, clean atmosphere and allow the breathtaking views, rippling lakes and green landscape take control of your senses. With the construction of Lough Erne Golf Resort, the owners have created an exclusive secluded resort hotel that provides two championship golf courses suitable for players of all standards (the Nick Faldo course is scheduled for completion later this year).

This is a £25 million project and it shows. The hotel & lodges are built using the finest materials including reconstituted sandstone that surrounds and enhances the Danish timber windows in keeping with the style of the resort. The overall effect is finished with stunning natural slate roofing. Every attention has been paid to the environs and there are over 300 pictures reflecting the area displayed throughout the Resort.

The natural surroundings and “country house” feel is enhanced by a spectacular arrival hall with a view straight over the lakes and friendly staff to greet you on arrival. The Gordon Wilson Library also offers wonderful views of the lake, while the Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a fine Irish whiskey, wine or cocktail.

Each of the suites and bedrooms in the main hotel and any of the 25 lodges offer a breathtaking view – either of the hotel gardens, the rolling Fermanagh countryside or the magical lakes. All bedrooms provide the latest in modern technology, as well as every creature comfort – including generous sized bathrooms with separate Claw bath and Rain shower.

Lough Erne offers an innovative, unique Thai Spa with 8 treatment rooms, dedicated thermal areas and a stunning circular turret relaxation lounge with spectacular views over Castle Hume Lough. The Erb Mantra is "daily bliss for your body and soul inspired by ancient Thai remedies and rituals". Aside from the spa, other health facilities are also on offer at the hotel including a 12 metre indoor heated mosaic infinity pool with Whirlpool, Steam Room and Sauna overlooking the 18th Green and Lake.

Vinotherapy - 18 Jun 2008

Spa therapies based on wine get the thumbs up

We were intrigued by the Vinotherapy Facial offered at one of our spa partners, Temple Spa. Described as a rejuvenating anti-aging treatment with a combination of Chardonnay grapes, Chianti grape must and exotic spices it definitely stands out as one of the more innovative treatments around.

So we consulted our personal wine guru, Kevin Ecock, wine columnist for Easy Food and Wealth magazines to get his thoughts. "It is accepted that moderate wine drinking is good for our health. Reports from around the world are now suggesting that spa therapies based on wine and grape extracts are equally good for us. Grapes and their wines are high in polyphenols which exhibit powerful antioxidant properties. These in turn fight off free radicals both in our blood system and also in our skin. As such they are being touted as strong anti ageing and anti wrinkle agents. Grape skins, grapes seeds and wine itself are being utilised by a variety of therapy treatments. So far all the news is positive." says Kevin.

Solis Lough Eske Castle - NEW - 16 Jun 2008

At last - Donegal is on our Spa map with a very special introductory rate at this new gem.

We've been waiting for something special in Donegal and are delighted to introduce our first Donegal Spa Partner - Solis Lough Eske Castle, already voted one of the Top New Hot Properties in the World for 2008 by Condé Nast Traveller

Situated just 10 minutes drive from Donegal town, the setting is perfect for a complete get away break and new improved access means you can be there from Dublin in under 4 hours.

Solis Lough Eske Castle is nestled within a 43 acre forest estate hugging the tranquil shores of Lough Eske and the panoramic backdrop of the Bluestack Mountain range of south-west Donegal. The castle, as a focal point of the hotel, has now been completely renovated and enhanced to create the Lough Eske Castle Hotel and Spa.

The grounds of the hotel contain some beautiful walks, and 40 brass statues from Le Blanc Fine Art, who were featured at this year's Chelsea Flower Show, are dotted here and there. Extra large bedrooms have all the comforts you need and you'll find it hard to resist the luxurious leather sofas positioned invitingly in the snug public areas.

The spa and pool building sit in the original location of the Glass House and there is an extensive and imaginative treatment menu using Sodashi, 100% organic products.

To celebrate the launch of Solis Lough Eske Castle on our website, there is a very special midweek package which includes 2 nights overnight accommodation with Full Irish Breakfast and Dinner on one night in Cedars Restaurant for only €160.00 per person sharing - exceptional value so don't hesitate to book.

The Power of Yoga - 06 Jun 2008

Can Yoga kill back pain?

We know many of you are yoga-fans but did you know it may play a key role in relieving lower back pain? So says a recent US study of 101 adults who suffered with persistant muscular pain. Divided into three groups, they were assigned an activity with the aim of easing their back troubles. The first group undertook Yoga classes for 12 weeks, the second took therapeutic exercise classes while the third sought the use of a self help book.

After 3 months the yogis reported better back function. while those who did the standard excercise class suffered another 3 months before they too could report an improvement. Interestingly, Viniyoga was the type of yoga that was used in the study which focuses on coordinating movement with the breathing techniques.

No mention of how the self-help book readers fared!
